Ogden Historic Homes

historic homes Ogden City has three Historic Districts: the Jefferson Avenue Historic District, the Eccles Avenue Historic District, and Historic 25th Street.

The Jefferson Avenue Historic District is located on Jefferson Avenue between 25th Street and 27th Street. This District is listed on US National Register of Historic Places. Most of the homes here were built in a distinct Victorian style, and many prominent Ogden families once held residence here, including the well-known David Eccles family. In fact, the David Eccles family mansion, which is now the Bertha Eccles Community Arts Center, is the centerpiece of the Jefferson Avenue Historic District.

The Eccles Avenue Historic District is located a few blocks east of the Jefferson Avenue Historic District between 25th Street and 26th Street. This District is also listed on the US National Register of Historic Places. Built between 1910 and 1030, the homes in the Eccles Avenue Historic District are newer than the homes in the Jefferson Avenue Historic District. Prominent residents once included the descendants of gun inventor John Browning and multi-millionaire David Eccles. Most homes here are considered to be based on the Prairie School style of architecture. The notable fixture of the Eccles Avenue Historic District is the Ivy Lane Reception Center at the Historic Eccles Mansion.

Historic 25th Street is comprised of three blocks of 25th Street between Wall Avenue and Washington Boulevard. This area is the heart of downtown Ogden, for Historic 25th Street is home to many shops, restaurants, art galleries, and more. In addition, Historic 25th Street regularly hosts community events, such as car shows, festivals, a weekly farmer’s market, and more. The Ogden Amphitheater is also located on Historic 25th Street. The crowning feature of Historic 25th Street, though, is the Ogden Union Station at the west end of the street.
